40 Stunning Examples of Black and White Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is an art which gives us a chance to have a look through the photographer’s eyes. It could be a colored portrait or it might be a black and white portrait depending upon the choice of photographer. However in my point of view the black and white portraits give a deeper insight into the picture and reveal the unsaid more deeply than the colored portraits. What ever emotion is tried to be captured through the camera’s lens is enhanced when it is displayed in black and white print as it gives the feel of purity, reality and to some extent does definitely touch the soft corner of our hearts.

It is very strange that black and white portraiture photography has a strange attractive feature in it. Despite of missing all the colors black and white portrait photos gain the attention of the viewer with its own beauty. The good lighting effect and composition makes the viewer more impressed with the black and white portrait photography.

Black and white portraiture photography reveals the expression of the people with enhancing the minor details of the object. In my view such portrait photography is big challenge as black and white portrait photos are only liked when these photos are taken in such a manner that every photo has a hidden message or silent emotion captures in it.

Thus in black and white photography the perfect timings and the light effects matter a lot as only those viewers get attracted to such photos who are very much interested to feel and read the silent emotions and the hidden messages behind each photo taken. A portrait of an old man might give a message of happiness in one portrait the same old man by changing a bit of expression and light effect might give the feel of depression through enhancing the wrinkles and shine in the eyes.

These are all very nice, but you have not give photo credit to the photographers of these images. I know, because one of them is mine, and my name is nowhere listed on this page, ie this is a copyright infringement.

Please list the photographers of these images. I agree with Anne and also would like to research the photographers for my own benefit, but have no way of accessing them? Appreciations

I’ve had no answer from the owners of this website. It is rather unprofessional to not give credit at least to the photographers, and to not ask permission to use images. My images is the one of the woman by the window. My name is Anne Worner,

        Hi Anne
I am a pencil artist, (color and B&W) and see beautiful photos here that I would LOVE to draw but I’m searching for the owner/photographer of the photos to get permission to use them. I agree with you…when sites use photos the should be required to label them with the photographers name. Yours is beautiful. I’m looking for great face shots that tell a story…I love the children shots shown here.

Linda when I made the comment, one could not link to the photos shown above. If you click on each photo, it will take you to the site where the photo was originally posted, and the photographer will be listed underneath. Several of these are on the website http://www.1x.com

  3. Beautifull portraits, but most of the eyes are far to bright. If you look long enough you will se a face. Know what I mean? Other then that I wish I’ve made them 🙂
